Romania

Together, Planting A Forest.

Reforestation in Romania will support the country's iconic landscape made up of towering mountains, infinite rolling hills, luscious green plains, and dense forestsLearn more

With your help, we will:

  • Protect wildlife and increase biodiversity
  • Measure slope erosion and enact erosion control
  • Restore the area's native flora and fauna
  • Climate change and shifts in agricultural practices have left large swathes of Romania's lowlands abandoned. Without people to manage the land, soil erosion and degradation of the landscape is starting to take its toll. Our planting partners in Romania are converting this abandoned land into healthy forests and raising awareness about the importance of proper land management to ensure these forests are well maintained. This planting project takes place around the picturesque UNESCO world heritage site Sighișoara, made up of 13th century Romanian Saxon villages. 💚
  • Planting trees in degraded areas will restore ecosystems, prevent soil erosion, and allow wildlife to return to the area. Revitalizing the natural environment of Romania is an important step in helping regulate the local climate and improve water retention for nearby villages. Our reforestation partners in Romania are working closely to mobilize community members and raise awareness of the importance of protecting the environment and sustainable forest management. In doing so our partners are restoring traditional land-use practices and creating economic benefits.
  • A personalized tree certificate (see gallery) to say thanks for your donation. We’ll also send you reports on the Romania project, so you can track the impact your trees are having on the community and environment.
  • We always plant a mix ofdiverse, native species from local nurseries. This project is working toreplenish Romanian forests through agroferstry, so the native species grown in the nurseries include European fir (Abies alba), Common beech (Fagus sylvatica), Sycamore (Acer pseudoplatanus), Elm (Ulmus glabra), Mountain Ash (Fraxinus excelsior), Rowan (Sorbus aucuparia), Grey elder (Alnus incana), and Dwarf pine (Pinus mugo).

Why Plant In Romania?

Restore Degraded Land

Erosion Control

Romania's steep mountains and rolling hills make erosion a difficult thing to control in order to protect the country's forests. Controlling erosion and the way water flows will strengthen the forests and prevent trees from becoming uprooted.

Raise Awareness

Protect Animal Habitat

Planting trees will give more animals in the area a place to call home. Replenishing a forest through agroforestry will increase biodiversity by attracting more wildlife to the area.

Preserve Tradition

Restore Native Species

A large portion of the region is home to monocultures of spruce, so we will be reintroducing native tree species to the area to promote biodiversity and strengthen the forests in the area.
